A man with a beard and dark hair, wearing a dark jacket, standing outside the Royal College of Music in London, smiling and leaning on a stone railing in front of a historic brick and stone building.

I am a New Zealand–born music educator, composer, and author living in London with my husband, Nick, and our dog, Alfie. Music has always been my lifelong language — I teach, play, and write — and when words fall short, it is where I turn. It was my mother who first taught me about the language of music, a gift that has guided me ever since.

In 2020, when my mother fell ill, I returned home, only to find myself locked in government-enforced quarantine as the end of her life drew near. I kept a diary through that time, and out of those pages grew my first published book, Her Son’s Love.

At its heart, it is a deeply personal memoir that weaves themes of love and loss with the timeless call and comfort of home. Above all, it is a tribute: to my mother’s grace, and to the love that endures beyond distance and time.
